Our Time Off Policies 📜
Days Off
We have an unlimited holiday policy, so you can take as much time off as you need. We ask that you consider your team-mates and the company’s business needs when booking time off.
Try to give as much notice as possible when booking holiday, and when booking more than two days off you need to notify your line manager at least two weeks in advance. When taking two weeks or more, you should give a month’s notice. Although we try not to, we’ll occasionally restrict holidays at particular times.
You must take the minimum number of days shown below.
Type | Days | Notes |
---|---|---|
15 | Minimum ammount. | |
Paid in full. | ||
17 | See note below. |
Public Holidays
As a distributed company we have employees in lots of different countries, all of whom have different public holidays. We feel that the fairest way to handle public holidays is to give everyone – no matter where they are – the same number of days off. Currently the folks who live in Hong Kong have the highest number of public holidays out of our employees, so everyone gets the same as them.
Sick Leave
Our policy on sick leave is explained in detail in the Company Handbook, but for to summarize:
If you’re sick and unable to work, you (or someone else) needs to tell your line manager as soon as possible, and no later than 9:30 (your local timezome) on the day of your absence. Tell them what’s wrong and how long you think you’ll be off so they can arrange to cover your work. If you’ve got any important meetings, client commitments or pressing matters, be sure to tell them so they can make sure everything is covered. If you’re off for multiple days, you should keep your manager informed while you’re absent. If you’re sick for more than seven days, we might ask for a doctor’s certificate.
We’ll pay you at your normal salary while you’re off sick, up to the following maximum per year depending on how long you’ve been employed:
- Employed for less than 2 years - 30 working days per year.
- Employed for 2-5 years - 60 working days per year.
- Employed for more than 5 years - 90 working days per year.
After that, we’ll either continue to pay you at your normal salary, or at a lower rate which will never be less than the Statutory Sick Pay.
Other Leave
Besides sickness and holiday you can also take time off for the following, providing you notify you manager in advance:
- Medical and dental appointments
- Maternity/paternity/adoption leave
- Parental leave
- Compassionate leave
- Public service
- Court attendance
- Jury service
- Other unpaid leave
If possible try to make medical and dental appointments outside working hours, but if not then just make sure you inform your line manager and team in advance.
